Smoking, holding lighted tobacco products and use of all other tobacco products is prohibited within a 25m radius of any Town owned or operated recreation area, including playgrounds, splash pads, soccer pitches, baseball and softball diamonds, as well as within a 25m radius of the main entrance to the Sharon Arena, located at 1914 (b) Mount Albert Road, Sharon. (Other entrances and air intakes and operable windows are not mentioned in the bylaw.)

“Smoke” or “Smoking” includes the holding of tobacco while the product is lit or emitting or exhaling smoke from an idling cigarette, cigar, pipe, or other tobacco device. “Tobacco product” means tobacco in any processed or unprocessed form that may be smoked, inhaled or chewed, but does not include products intended for use in nicotine replacement therapy.

This is considered leading edge because it includes all tobacco products. There is only a small handful of municipalities in Canada that have gone beyond smoked tobacco in their bylaws. However, as laudable as it is to prohibit the use of all tobacco products, enforcement may not be straightforward.
