By-law 2013-54 to Regulate Parks under the Jurisdiction of the City of Greater Sudbury

This by-law includes provisions to prohibit smoking in outdoor public spaces available for active recreation or quiet relaxation. After May 1, all municipal parks and associated facilities became smoke-free, including: amphitheatres and gazebos; ballfields; beaches; bleachers/field houses; parkettes; parking areas; playgrounds; skateboard and BMX parks; ski hills/outdoor rinks; soccer/football fields; splash pads; tennis courts; and trails/boardwalks/walkways. All events held in municipal parks are also required to be smoke-free. According to news reports, consultations were to take place over the summer and, in the fall of 2013, Council is expected to discuss smoke-free municipal property and patios. As of late October, consultations were still taking place with the hospitality industry and the public.
