Smoking is prohibited on or within 9 m of playground areas or splashpads, as named in a schedule to the bylaw. On June 25, 2013, the schedule was amended to include skateparks and other recreational facilities.

“Smoke” or “smoking” includes the carrying of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or any other lighted smoking equipment. “Parkland” means any and all lands owned by the Town that has been or hereafter may be set apart, designated, dedicated or established by Council as public parkland. “Playground area” means an outdoor area established within parkland fitted with equipment such as, but not limited to, slides, swings and climbing equiptnent. The area is usually identified by a defined border which encloses an area of sand, rubber or any similar safety surface. “Splash pad” means a concrete surface with no standing water depth and water sprinkler nozzle which, when operating, sprays water upwards and down on the concrete surface and is intended to have a cooling effect.

It is not recommended that specific venues where smoking is prohibited be named in a bylaw as this requires re-opening of the bylaw if the name changes or an additional venue is added.
