This bylaw is considered leading edge because it includes waterpipes and other weeds and substances, and smoking is prohibited within a buffer zone around patios, transit shelters and doorways, operable windows and air intakes of all buildings used by the public. However, 6 m is not a great enough distance to prevent the smoke from entering buildings, creating a nuisance or health hazard for people entering and exiting. At least 7 m is recommended based on outdoor SHS scientific research.
