Bylaw No. 19-2010, Town of Canmore Smoking Control Bylaw

Canmore is one of the few municipalities in Canada that prohibits tobacco smoking in hotel rooms. All previous bylaws are repealed.

In preparation for the legalization of cannabis, the town is currently surveying residents on a number of issues including the public consumption of cannabis. Specifically, it is seeking feedback on whether consumption should be permitted, prohibited or restricted (limited to designated smoking areas) at:

  • Quarry Lake
  • Riverside Park
  • Rotary Friendship Park
  • Dog parks
  • Cemetaries
  • Trails/pathways
  • Other green spaces/boulevards
  • Festivals and events
  • In hotel rooms

Residents can also weigh in on whether town restrictions should be stricter, looser or the same as what is being proposed provincially.

A public hearing is scheduled for 10 April 2018.
