Moose Jaw Bylaw No. 5192
On October 23, 2017, Moose Jaw City Council directed Administration to make the following amendments to Smoking Bylaw 5192:
- Where the term smoke or hold lighted tobacco is used and enforced, that it be expanded to include e-cigarettes (vaping), the smoking of cannabis and smoking of hookah pipes; and that
- The no smoking areas be expanded to include City-owned properties and outdoor events.”
A motion was passed to include in the amendments that:
- Retail vape stores be excluded for the teaching and retail purposes, and
- That only indigenous pipe ceremonies consistent with The Tobacco Control Act be also excluded.”
City Council voted that amendments to the Smoking Bylaw No. 5192 be tabled to Executive Committee for review of existing bylaws from other Cities.
As of 26 March 2018, progress was still awaiting direction from the provincial government regarding new regulations around cannabis use, which would impact the City’s Smoking Bylaw.
